On the 9th of June, 2016, Holy Ascension Church of Sacramento, California marked its Patronal Feast Day of the Ascension of the Lord.
His Eminence KYRILL Archbishop of San Francisco and Western America presided over the Divine Liturgy. Concelebrating with him were the parish Rector, Archpriest Paul Volmensky, Abbot James (Corazza), Priest James Steele, Deacon Nicholai Lenkoff, Deacon Philip Plowman and Hierodeacon Peter Karakozoff.
Though it was a weekday the Divine Liturgy was well attended and many participated in the procession around the church. The Sisterhood provided a festal meal and the hall was filled to capacity.
During the meal father rector congratulated Archbishop Kyrill and the parishioners with the Patronal Feast mentioning that just as all are born into this world, so it is a given that all will resurrect on the Last Day. However, not all will ascend and share in the session at the right hand of the Father. Through faith and grace, which is demonstrated by the people here present today, may all attain to the image of Christ our God and partake of His great glory in His unending Kingdom.
As a small token of gratitude to Archbishop Kyrill, the parish gave His Eminence a eagle rug crafted at the St. Elizabeth’s Monastery in Minsk, Belarus.
